took the day off to head to the foodshow today. I suspect the recent weather didn’t help attendance and it was a little smaller than in previous years. We go on preview day to avoid the crowds and this year was great. It was nice to see some stall holders there from previous years like Goldmedal Wines who import Chillian wines like the very tasty Carmenere. As always the Hawkesbay region did themselves proud with a great showing. Other regions should get thier act togeather.
pics over there break…

As the blanket coverage continuesabout Tony Veitch I’ve come to ask my self what do we want from him?
What he did was….well how can you put that into words… it was a terrible terrible thing (what ever I put it doesn’t sound enough)
But as the coverage continues and the outrage froths forward I have to ask my self what do we want?
Do we want punishment, rehabilitation or justice?

Here is my first installment of “Top Spin” this is where I head to www.scoop.co.nz and have a look this weeks press releases.
I had a look at the National one just now and I’m surprised we don’t hear more from them on the telly. Every day they publish 5 or 6 negative releases hopping it will get picked up by the press. The rhetoric yells at you from the page …residents screaming for relief while the government has completely lost the plot… Their approach reminds of fishing…they throw out as much bait as they can to hook a reporter and then push the rest of bait away as they run with their ‘catch of the day’

Kerry Woodham and I agree on something. I thought it would never, could never happen…Well it did… IN MY OWN DEFENCE we both came to our opinion completely independently so it was just one of those horrific coincidances that I’m sure will never happen again, well I can only hope it won’t…
I point you to the link above and the recent protest on road users charges and truckies…
Was Annette King justified in putting up the charges? probably…
Last time she did this she gave the industry notice and they splurged on 13 million dollars of prepaid road user charges before change came into affect (I’d like to have seen the spotty boy at the local Caltex that day!) there by negating part of the rise and hastening this rise as a result.
So was she justified in not giving them notice? You bet
But lord almighty your four months out from an election and 30 points behind in the polls! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!?!
Maybe Labour are to earnest for their own good (yeah right) but by delaying the rise until after the election you create a win win situation, either you win and you put them up and give yourself three years to make good on better roads or you lose and force the next government to make the unpopular move…
I work for a large company and I know that no matter how good your intentions are or how right the decision is it’s the PERCEPTION that runs as the first item on the nightly news.
Anyway the most important thing to remember here is that we shall never talk of me agreeing with Woodham again.
