Babies

Published by Jughead under jughead

So my partner is having a baby in April. Its still a bit abstract at the moment. What is not abstract is the fear. We have had some complications and due to her age we don’t get a dedicated midwife.

Yes because we are higher risk we don’t get a dedicated professional…Yes it seems odd to me too. So we have a hospital midwife who depending on when we call (so far every time we call) is not on call or busy else where.

This would be ok if we hadn’t got some bad results that are scaring the crap out of us. Oh and because we live in the age of make your own choices blah blah, no one gives advice anymore. They always give you ‘options’ and you have to choose. No one tells you what you should do.

Now this seems ok but the hospital people have done this a hundred times, we have never been here before. We would to get some help making a decision not just caring smiles.

Oh well, next round of tests on Monday… This is going to be a long six months

Why I hate Sky

Published by Jughead under tech

I have Sky, I have My Sky…I sublet my house so I even have multi room…. And I hate those bastards!

Let me see I think I pay them over $150 bucks a month at the moment and I’m late in paying because it hurts my soul everytime I give them money…There are so many ways to hate them, let me count the ways.

1. I keep paying more for channels I don’t watch.  It seems every two months they send me a letter telling me that due to inflationary pressure they are putting up my sky basic by another 2 dollars.  That would be fine if I watch half, quarter, fifth, eighth of the channels they offered. I hate paying more for services I don’t use

2. Service. Quite simply thier customer service sucks. Try rining them sometime and find out. They close at 9pm which is great for a 24 hour service. Your Sky that you pay for breaks at 3am? tough. I once had a fault with our second decoder that customer service just could not fix, that is untill the tech came over and said the right words to somebody down the phone and it was fixed in five minutes. Too bad it took a week to roll the tech.

3. Speaking of which, ever tried to get anything insallted through Sky? It’s great to offer promotions but if it takes two weeks to fullfill that promise I’m going to be pissed

4. My Sky. $600 bucks to ‘buy’ the service and you don’t even own the box…WTF? They have realised how crappy this is and now offer a $15 dollar a month service instead…but it costs $50 bucks to install! Oh and by install I mean wait two weeks for the guy to drop off a box and plug it in. Just send the bloody thing if its going to cost that much.

5. It dosen’t work when it rains… I mean heavn forbid I want to use the telly when its crap weather outside. Every time there is enough wind for an Americas Cup race the reception craps out. Remember I am paying through the nose for this ’service’. If you are kind enough to place a warning on my screen about ‘atmospheric conditions’ then you should be so kind as the credit my account for the footage lost. Oh and that footage always seems to be a critical part to any show. Did you enjoy Brook Freeman getting shot on Shortland Steet? Good because I never got to see it! And don’t get me started on show ‘overruns’ how come when a show ends on time sky pretend it finished five minutes earlier and cut half my show off??

6. Prime. Oh now we could put freeview on sky basic (now I’m paying for freeview) but heaven forbid we put Prime on freeview. Why? Well sky are obligated to provide delayed coverage of sport for free but they don’t want to put it on freeview because then you might buy a freeview box instead of thier box. Bastards.

Oh that felt good. I can’t wait for an alternative to come along so I can give them the boot.

Outlook Macro Buttons

Published by Jughead under tech

I am a big fan of Gmail with its great big archive button and lable feature.

I did some hunting around and made some macros to bling my outlook out!

first the result…

outlook-toolbar

The Arcive button moves the email to an archive folder and the copy and move bring up a box to move them else where

The other buttons assing categories to emails so the 1800 old emails in the archive folder are now tagged for easy locating.

You move the buttons onto your tool bar by customising it, using the macros you have set up and then renaming the button and using text only.

The macros are after the break…

I had to vist someone in hospital yesterday for about three hours. While we were waiting we got to reading the magazines left in the room. There was a Girlfriend magazine from 1998! Maybe it’s about time they updated their catalogue a little.
I am happy to report though that Christina Ricci is in fact a hot up and coming under 21 year old and Sony have just realised their new Sony Discman in hot orange with ESP2.

Police had diffculty using Army during Napier Siege. Good

Published by Jughead under news

Listening to National radio on Friday some people are astonished that the Police had some difficulty using the Army for anything more than ‘administrative support’ during the siege.

now the government has asked for a report to find ways to make it easier to “call out the army”

Once again we are faced with this damned thing called common sense.  It just seems to make sense that the police use the army when they are confronted with a lone gunman. The government should make it easier to do that right?

wrong.

When you sit down to think about it and put individual, highly emotive cases to one side there is a very good reason why there is separation between the military and the police. Using a nations military against its citizens should always be a last resort and should never be ‘made easier’

You only need to look at nations where this is common place to see it’s a road we don’t want to go down.

If necessary police should have their own armored

vehicles. Better the devil you know.

I shot the prick

Published by Jughead under news

Do I think David Bain is guilty? Yes. Do I think that beyond a reasonable doubt? No. So in that respect I think the Jury got it right. The Defense team didn’t prove David innocent but they did produce enough experts to dispute the crown and sow just enough doubt that the jury couldn’t make any other decision.

The 111 tape was interesting…

Firstly the crown tried to portray David as a cold blooded killer who shot his family then spent 15 minutes setting up the scene which included a suicide note and arranging the bodies…If the crown was correct and was that calculated why would he confess to a 111 operator at the first opportunity? This evidance dosen’t fit with thier case.

Second the defence contends that he did not say those words.  If they belive he didn’t say anything why go to such lengths to suppress it? Given the reaction to the tape thus far it seems it would have sowen more doubt and helped their case.

One last thing  Rosemary McLoed is right we should remember there are still five dead people. Three of them never got to grow up. With all the fist pumping prehaps we have forgotten that.

New Iphone 3G announced

Published by Jughead under tech

So the new Iphone 3Gs has been announced. The first thing you need to know is…

Cellular and wireless
UMTS/HSDPA (850, 1900, 2100 MHz)
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

That should make some people inside Telecom very happy indeed. The new Iphone will work faster in many more places on the XT network over Voda’s network.

This is because Voda use 2100/900. 2100 is their original 3G roll out and only works in 19 towns and cities around NZ. If you want to go further than that and not be on dial up speed you will need a 900 phone…

XT on the other hand is 850 everywhere all the time.

This makes the likleyhood of an Iphone being sold through Telecom a very real possibllity!
